Midwives are trained specialists in pregnancy, birth and postpartum care.
Our role is not only clinical; it is also educational, emotional and supportive.
We help women:
Understand their options.
Feel informed.
Navigate the maternity system.
And feel less alone during pregnancy and early motherhood.
-
Our endorsed midwives may be able to provide prescriptions, referrals, pathology requests and diagnostic imaging requests within their individual scope of practice and prescribing endorsement.
This may include pregnancy-related blood tests, scans, selected medications, and referrals where clinically appropriate.
If your care requires services outside our scope or telehealth suitability, we will guide you toward the most appropriate provider or service for further assessment.
-
Absolutely.
We encourage partners and support people to be involved if that feels right for you.
Pregnancy, birth and postpartum can bring a lot of questions, emotions and decision-making, and having your support person present can help everyone feel more informed, connected and supported.
Partners are welcome to join telehealth appointments from the same location or separately if needed.
-
All you need is:
A phone, tablet or computer.
A stable internet or service connection for video appointments.
And access to your email for appointment confirmations and telehealth links.
If video is not suitable, some appointments may also be completed via phone consultation where appropriate. You can tell us your preference in your intake form.
We aim to keep the process simple, accessible and stress-free for women and families.
-
No referral is required to book an appointment with Virtual Midwife Australia.
Women are welcome to self-refer for pregnancy and postpartum support Australia-wide via telehealth.
Where clinically appropriate, our endorsed midwives may also provide referrals to:
Your local hospital or maternity unit
GP
Obstetrician
Allied health providers
Pathology
Or diagnostic imaging services
We aim to work collaboratively alongside your existing healthcare team to help you feel informed, supported and connected to the care you need.
Why We Exist
Our philosophy is simple: women deserve care that is informed, respectful and human.
We believe midwifery is more than ticking boxes. It is education, advocacy, clinical care, emotional support and helping women make decisions from a place of confidence — not fear.
We work alongside your existing maternity team and support collaborative care, because you deserve to feel held, not handed around.
